The Palmaretum was awarded the European Ecolabel on March 13, as part of the Itinéraire éco 3 program run by the CCI de région des îles de Guadeloupe. It’s the concrete sign of a successful commitment to limiting the plant’s environmental impact. A first in Guadeloupe.

As part of the Itinéraire éco 3 program, the CCI de Région des Iles de Guadeloupe organized an award ceremony on Friday March 13, to recognize the environmental initiatives of several establishments, including the European Ecolabel awarded to the Palmaretum hotel-gîte in La Vernou Petit Bourg, Guadeloupe.

A testimonial from Clark Delachair, manager of the facility, explained the benefits obtained through this program and the European Ecolabel certification issued by AFNOR Certification.

The ceremony was attended by Robert Arnous, president of the tourism commission of the CCI des îles de Guadeloupe, and Hélène Polifonte-Molia, president of the tourism commission of the Conseil régional. ADEME Guadeloupe was also represented by its Regional Director, Catherine Luciani, while the Var CCI was represented by Jean-Jacques Mora, Honorary General Manager.

The European Ecolabel is the only official ecological certification issued by an independent body and recognized throughout Europe. It helps to meet the growing expectations of our customers, and is an opportunity for tourism professionals to adopt an environmental approach.

The 4 advantages of the European Ecolabel for tourism establishments :

  • Energy savings of up to 20% on water and electricity bills.
  • Establishment of a participative social dialogue with accommodation employees, improvement of their working conditions (reduction in the use of hazardous products, process changes).
  • Optimizing relations with suppliers.
  • Respond to the growing expectations of environmentally conscious customers.

At the end of March 2015, 357 establishments displayed the European Ecolabel: 287 for “Tourist accommodation services”. 70 for “Camping services”.
