ISO 50001 is a management system standard, not a technical standard. The 2018 version makes energy management a component of corporate strategy. Chapter 5, for example, covers aspects of management responsibility and energy policy. It places greater emphasis on the leadership and commitment of management, who must define policy and objectives that are compatible with the organization’s strategic direction, and support management teams so that they themselves contribute to the management system.
