On August 21, 2018, NF EN ISO 50001:2018 replaced NF EN ISO 50001:2011 in the AFNOR collection. In terms of terminology, it clarifies certain concepts, such as the relationship between “energy performance indicators” and the “reference energy situation” when demonstrating an improvement in energy performance. But it’s the collection of energy data and the measurement of energy performance improvement that the new version of ISO 50001 provides the most guidance on. As the standard now requires proof of continuous improvement in energy performance, it sets out a methodological framework. In the end, the user knows how to ensure that the energy savings expected at the end of an action plan are actually achieved, and maintained over time, so that they can be demonstrated to third parties.
