From local swimming pools to major CAC 40 groups, the theme of energy sobriety is on the agenda of every organization in the early 2020s. It has quickly become one of the pillars, with a short-termist dimension, of an energy transition and decarbonization strategy that aims, in the long term this time, to extricate France from its dependence on fossil fuels and reduce its energy consumption by 40% by 2050. This strategy is structured as follows:

  • Energy conservation, i.e. giving up certain uses to consume less.
  • Energy efficiency, i.e. consuming less for the same use
  • Acceleration of renewable energy production
  • Relaunching the French nuclear industry

What is an energy efficiency plan?

The concept of an energy sobriety plan appeared on the political agenda in June 2022, and was formalized on October 6, 2022. The public authorities have issued a call to reduce energy consumption by 10% in 2023 and 2024 compared with 2019.

An “Act 2” was presented in June 2023, with a view to perpetuating the effort, an effort that quickly hit the target due to energy prices that winter. The effort must be made collectively, but also individually, company by company. Collectively, inter-ministerial working groups coordinate efforts by major sector:

  • An exemplary state
  • Companies and work organization
  • Public-access buildings and commercial premises
  • Housing
  • Digital and telecommunications
  • Local authorities
  • Sports
  • Transport
  • Industry

Individual economic players, including companies, are invited to translate the objective into a short-term action plan. It appears that those who follow good energy management practices find it easier to do so! It’s easier to get organized, and therefore easier for their efforts to bear fruit. In particular, having metering equipment, with measurement points, centralized control, verification and precise reporting, is a precious help. AFNOR Energies does it for you!

Tracking energy consumption: the AFNOR Energies monitoring platform

To facilitate access to and analysis of your energy data, whatever the suppliers and consumption sites concerned, AFNOR Energies provides you with a monitoring platform.

This secure, collaborative space, which brings together your dynamic, customizable dashboards, enables you to consolidate all your consumption data on a web interfaceto monitor your energy performance, observe the impact of your improvement actions point by point, and adapt them according to your results.

AFNOR Energies monitoring platform

Gathering energy data and influencing factors, detecting anomalies and potential savings, optimizing your electricity, gas, heating and cooling supply contracts, analyzing the results of your energy efficiency actions, managing load shedding and self-consumption… This data intelligence supports a tailored service:

  • Data upload to the OPERAT platform under the tertiary sector decree
  • Outsourced Energy Manager service
  • Preparing for future energy audits or ISO 50001 procedures
  • Analysis for renewal of energy supply contracts
  • Measurement plan and measurement and verification (M&V) approach

Checking performance: measurement and verification (M&V) services

Numbers can be interpreted! Making energy savings visible and credible requires instrumentation, objectification and verification. M&V (measurement and verification) expertise consists of :

  • Know the consumption profile of your equipment and processes
  • Analyze the causes of deviations or anomalies in energy consumption
  • Continuously monitor the performance of actions undertaken
  • Produce relevant energy performance indicators to monitor your progress, report to management, raise staff awareness and communicate accurately

AFNOR Energies does it for you, according to your needs

  • Identify all relevant points to be instrumented on your sites and set up the measuring equipment
  • Defines the measurement plan
  • Organize the timing of the survey campaign and data logging
  • Analysis of your energy performance, with relevant indicators and a progress curve over time
  • Produce a measurement & verification plan for your project in accordance with the IPMVP protocol and ISO standards
  • Monitors your multi-site data on a secure platform

Would you prefer to do it yourself? It’s possible, provided you have the right skills! And while you’re at it, show that your home expert has these skills, and/or that the results obtained are reliable and communicable.

Request a deletion audit

Load shedding consists of forgoing immediate electricity consumption to relieve the grid, and receiving payment for this service from the grid operator. Common in industry for electro-intensive sites, the concept has spread to smaller economic players, capable of modulating their consumption, and even to private individuals, to whom load-shedding aggregators offer their services.

The concept appeals to you, but you don’t know what uses you could convert to erasure in your company, or what revenue you could generate? Ask us for an erasure audit!

Coaching and awareness-raising: the Impact method

AFNOR Energies’ IMPACT method aims to raise awareness of energy issues throughout the company, right up to senior management level. She leaves the technical management of the projects to the energy team, and brings the rest of the staff on board, putting herself at their level, in a spirit of tailor-made coaching, to encourage commitment and support for the approach, from the initial photograph to the sobriety action plan.

You are then free to go further, by formalizing an energy management system, offering energy efficiency training to your teams, carrying out an energy audit or even initiating an energy management process based on ISO 50001. You can also appoint an energy-saving consultant duly certified by AFNOR Certification.
