What is NoCode?

An e-commerce site, a marketing database, an online magazine, a customer form, a newsletter, a mobile application… For an ever-increasing number of uses, you can go it alone and achieve satisfactory results thanks to NoCode, with no line of code and no programming skills. No need for code experts.

NoCode or LowCode?

If you’ve got some computer skills and can customize the tools on the shelf, we call that Low Code. However, NoCode/Low Code is neither a magic wand nor a revolution: superlatives all too often do a disservice to what they are intended to celebrate. But it’s not just a toolbox either: its promise – to make programming accessible to all – makes it a real movement, inspiring both enthusiasm and creativity.

NoCode: the challenge of interoperability

The “drag and drop” gesture, particularly in applications, has become emblematic of these highly intuitive, highly visual interfaces, which are multiplying at breakneck speed. They boost our capacity for innovation and reduce certain IT costs. As users, companies can choose from a growing number of NoCode bricks, and are rightly concerned about the interoperability of these tools,” explains Franck Lebeugle, Director of Standardization Activities at AFNOR. They are also wondering about the protection of their data, once they connect their information systems to those of publishers. These are the first two issues to be resolved, but they are far from the only ones.

NoCode: an AFNOR meeting on November 28

In the absence of a computer language, NoCode players need to create standards and harmonize their practices. It may seem counter-intuitive to propose common rules for an ecosystem that does without code, but the need is real! On November 28, 2023, AFNOR will give the market its say. All the company’s business lines are involved, including the IT department of course, but also other departments, because by its very nature, NoCode is aimed at… each and every one of us! On-site or remotely, you’ll be able to chat with Julie Latawiec, who coordinates standardization work on the subject for AFNOR, Carole Vial, LowCode and NoCode Manager at L’Oréal, Pierre Lacombe, CEO of Voltapp, and Pierre Launay, President of the Syndicat professionnel du NoCode (SFPN). [UPDATE April 2024: a second webinar was held on April 3, 2024, focusing on two innovation levers: NoCode-LowCode and voluntary standards, with four testimonials from the field. Replay it here]. Interviewed at the end of October 2023 in Forbes, the latter explained that “while the United States is a pioneer in the day-to-day use of NoCode by businesses, France has a special place insofar as it is the country that brought to life the first international trade show dedicated to NoCode: the NoCode Summit [organized by SFPN this autumn]. The launch of the AFNOR standardization project […] will once again set a French precedent in the structuring of the industry, with the ambition of European standardization. ” Tomorrow’s standards are being written today… And certainly not without you!
